Magdalena Vergara’s Dissertation Defence

Magdalena Vergara will have her dissertation defense at 12:30 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2023 in Room 200 of the Graduate Student Centre (6371 Crescent Road).

All are welcome to attend. Please arrive 5 minutes early so the exam can begin promptly.


The examination committee comprises:

Research Supervisor: Dr. Teresa Dobson (LLED)
Supervisory Committee Members: Dr. Jan Hare (LLED) and Dr. Marlene Asselin (LLED).
University Examiners: Dr. Sam Rocha (EDST) and Dr. Jen Jenson (LLED)
External Examiner: Dr. James Nahachewsky (University of Victoria)


Reading the South in the North: A study of Latin American literature in Vancouver teaching contexts.
This study explores how Latin American literature is interpreted though grade-school educational practices in Metro Vancouver, Canada, and problematizes potential mechanisms of representation that emerge from such practices through the lens of postcolonial theory.
