A Smoke Behind the Rope draws inspiration from actual events and characters. It’s a tale of two individuals, isolated in separate confinements, anxiously anticipating their grim fate the following day. They established a connection and showed concern for one another despite their physical barriers. Through their rhythmic interactions, they can forge a bond that transcends the physical barriers between them. This recurring theme of the wall appearing and disappearing represents the enduring resilience and growing solidarity between the two individuals as they navigate a precarious environment. Despite their challenging circumstances, they can find love, humour and hope, which helps them overcome the oppression they experience.
Join us as we witness a unique and impactful narrative unfold, filled with physical movements, dialogues, songs, dance, and moments of silence.
The selection of scenes will be followed by a conversations with the actors, writer and director.
A collaboration between Sky Theatre Group, UBC-RbT Lab, and LLED
