Taking your research to public media outlets

The topic of academic engagement with public media and other forms of public knowledge continues to evolve. SSHRC and other forms of funding require applicants to provide plans for public outreach and engagement.  This presentation offers personal insights from academic researchers about the journey to write op eds, short essays, and TED-like talks for political and mass public outreach.

Dr. Kent den Heyer is an Associate Professor of social and curriculum studies in the Department of Secondary Education, University of Alberta. He publishes in areas related to curriculum change, history and social studies education, and educational philosophy.

Dr. George Belliveau is Professor of theatre education in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, University of British Columbia. He publishes in the areas of research-based theatre, drama and social justice, men’s health, and drama education.

Dr. Anthony Pare is a Professor and Head of the Department of Language and Literacy Education, University of British Columbia. His research includes the study of language and learning, recently focusing on doctoral education, specifically on the dissertation.

Dr. Kedrick James is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, University of British Columbia. He is a spoken word artist, poet, musician and publishes in the areas of poetic inquiry, arts-based research, and digital technology.
