What’s PSI?
UBC’s flagship scholarship program to encourage and fund impactful, cross-disciplinary, multisectoral doctoral research, the Public Scholars Initiative (PSI), is getting ready to accept applications for its 10th cohort of students; this year’s applications will run from Monday, the 11th of March to Sunday, the 12th of May.

Why should I apply?
Launched in 2015, PSI has since won national and international recognition for its focus on ‘reimagining the PhD’ to benefit society and enhance career readiness. Currently PSI has a network of almost 350 doctoral students and alumni from 12 faculties across UBC, and we are looking to add 30-35 more students this year. UBC’s Public Scholars benefit from academic support, professional development and networking opportunities, and, not least, up to $20,000 in funding over two years for research expenses and/or stipend. During the Department of Language & Literacy Education information session, you can hear general information about the program and application strategies. Potential applicants can also ask their questions, get personalized help with their applications, and how to make their application stronger.
