Congratulations to Dr. Melane Wong on being the recipient of the 2025 Language and Literacy Educational Leadership Award (LLELA)

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Melanie Wong is the outstanding recipient of the 2025 Language and Literacy Educational Leadership Award!
Dr. Wong’s commitment to promoting Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization (EDID) are substantial and these contributions align well with the mission of our Faculty and University. Among other efforts and initiatives, her interest in pursuing leading edge technological development of reading software for purposes of learning and assessment among language learners was inspiring, as was her way of collaborating with colleague both within LLED and across the Faculty and University. It is clear that she has been forging an innovative path and leading in literacy education for the betterment of teachers everywhere.
Overall, the committee recognized the positive impact of her leadership roles on people and processes within the department, Faculty, and beyond the university. Dr. Wong bring a wealth of positive energy and engagement in the workplace. Given the award criteria, we felt she reflected the kind of educational leadership that this award was intended to highlight, and thus we are happy to honor her with the 2025 Language and Literacy Education Leadership Award.
