LLED Research Seminar Series: Feminist Theory and Research
Join us for this month’s LLED research seminar! Dr. Jennifer Jenson and Dr. Kisha McPherson will be presenting on doing research through a feminist lens. Dr. Jenson’s presentation will include an introduction to feminist theory, methods, and pedagogy, offering insights for both those who are experienced or those who are new to feminist theory. Additionally, Dr. McPherson will be sharing how she uses feminist theory and intersectionality in her work examining the educational experiences and representation of Black girls in secondary school contexts and media representations.
Jennifer Jenson is Professor of Digital Languages, Literacies & Cultures in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia. Prior to coming to UBC (January 2019), Dr. Jenson spent 18 years at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she was Director of the Institute for Research on Digital Learning.
Kisha McPherson has well over a decade of experience teaching students of all ages, ranging from kindergarten to post-secondary. Her work centres on themes of social justice, equity in education, media, and cultural studies; her research interests focus on cultural and Black studies.
