LLED Apprenticeship Workshop: Introduction to APA with Ashley Moore

In this practical workshop, Ashley Moore will explain citation and referencing practices using APA (7th ed.), one of the most commonly used styles to cite academic sources within Faculty of Education courses and the wider social sciences. Ashley will also introduce some helpful resources you can reference back to as you work on academic writing for your course assignments, thesis and dissertation, or publications. You will also complete some practical tasks designed to help you get to grips with paraphrasing, in-text citations and formatting your reference list. To that end, you are encouraged to identify a sample (1) journal article, (2) book, and (3) chapter in an edited collection that you are likely to use in your upcoming work. If you have any specific questions about APA, please feel free to email Ashley (ashleyrmoore@alumni.ubc.ca) in advance of the workshop.

Ashley R. Moore is a PhD candidate in LLED. He learned the subtle importance of competency in APA formatting, style and citation practices through successfully publishing articles in TESOL Quarterly, The Modern Language Journal, and the Journal of Language, Identity and Education–all of which require APA formatting for submitted manuscripts. He also works as an academic proofreader.

UBC is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people.
