Dr. David Pearson invited talk – Improving both Science and Literacy through integrated Science & Literacy Instruction

LLED is pleased to host an invited talk with Dr. David Pearson. Please join us for this provocative seminar.

Date: Monday, June 15, 2015
Time: 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Location: Digital Literacy Centre, rm 103, Ponderosa Annex F

Description: Pearson discusses the synergies and improvements in achievement that occur when reading, writing, and language are regarded as tools to enhance the acquisition of knowledge and inquiry skills in science. He presents principles of integration, examples of instructional practice, and evidence documenting growth in achievement when we accept the premise that literacy practices are better conceptualized as tools not goals. His provocative thesis advances and shifts how literacy is positioned in terms of meaning making and in relationship to learning in schools.

Light refreshments will be served
