Children Learning to Read Digital Data as ‘Texts’: A case study of critical algorithmic education
Dr. Hyeon-Seon Jeong (she/her) is a Visiting Professor in HDLC (Human Development, Learning and Culture), Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia (2022-2023). She is a Professor of Media Education at Department of Korean Education and Master’s Program in Digital Media Education at Gyeongin National University of Education, South Korea. She is also a Partner Investigator of the Australian Research Council’s Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child. Her research and practices have focused on children’s multiliteracy practices; classroom discourse analysis; critical understanding of literacy education and remote schooling; classroom resources development for media education; and digital parenting. She has recently contributed chapters to The Routledge Handbook of Media Education Futures Post-Pandemic (2022); Learning to Live with Datafication (2022); and Learning beyond the School (2019). She is currently writing a book together with researchers in seven different countries about parents’ and caregivers’ experiences on parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the children’s digital media use and remote schooling.
