Congratulations to Dr. Annette Henry!

Dr. Annette Henry has taken up the appointment of David Lam Chair in Multicultural Education within the Faculty of Education, effective September 1st 2016, for a three-year term.

The terms of reference for the David Lam Chair in Multicultural Education prioritize the appointment of a dynamic scholar and collaborative colleague with extensive scholarly and pedagogical expertise related to multicultural and social justice studies in education. A commitment to anti-oppression,anti-racism, intersectionality, and decolonization perspectives and practice in education is important. The David Lam Chair in Multicultural Education exhibits distinction in research,teaching, mentorship, community building and educational leadership relevant to themandateof theChair.

Dr. Annette Henry is a Professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education and holds an appointment in the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice. Dr. Henry’sscholarship examines race, class, language, gender and culture in socio-cultural contexts of teaching and learning in the lives of Black students, Black women teachers’ life histories practice in Canada, the U.S. and education in Caribbean contexts. She has written extensively about diverse feminisms and conceptual and methodological research issues especially in culture-specific contexts. She has received several awards including the Jason Millman Promising Scholar award from Cornell University, the AERA Distinguished Contributions to Gender Equity Research Award (SAGE) and the AERA Scholar of the Year Award (Research Focus on Black Education).
