Welcome, Dr. Derek Gladwin!
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Derek Gladwin, a new tenure-track appointment in the Department of Language & Literacy Education effective July 1, 2018. Dr. Gladwin will be joining us as an Assistant Professor from the University of Waterloo. His interdisciplinary research and teaching broadly explore the intersection of cultural and environmental studies (Environmental Humanities), particularly looking at mobilizing change through literacy. Dr. Gladwin is a very welcome addition to the department.

Biostatement:

Dr. Derek Gladwin’s interdisciplinary research and teaching explore transformations in society and culture through literary, digital, and media literacies focused on environmental and sustainability education. Before joining LLED, he held a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Waterloo, where he researched energy literacy and culture. Dr. Gladwin has previously held visiting research fellowships in the environmental humanities at the University of Edinburgh and Trinity College Dublin. He recently authored the book
Ecological Exile (Routledge, 2018) and has a forthcoming edited volume about food studies and culture titled
Gastro-Modernism (Clemson UP).
