Dmitri Detwyler

As of this writing, I am pursuing a Phd in teaching ESL, in the department of language and literacy education at the University of British Columbia, under the co-supervision of Steven Talmy and Sandra Zappa. I also hold an MA in TESL from the Pennsylvania State University, and have previously taught English as an additional language in Canada, the U.S., and Taiwan. My current research interests include language classroom interaction and technology, sociolinguistics-informed pedagogies, language teacher development, and the theoretical and ethical dimensions of qualitative research methodologies in educational settings. Many of these interests have involved speakers of Mandarin Chinese in some way and I remain curious about the linguistic dimensions of contact between Chinese-speaking and English-speaking worlds, broadly conceived.
