The Department of Language and Literacy Education (LLED) and the UBC Learning Exchange (LE) are excited to re-launch their successful Graduate Community Engagement Internship program. The role of the graduate student will be to support the UBC LE’s programming through a paid internship with a strong focus on promoting literacy through community engagement activities, research, and facilitated workshops/events.
The UBC Learning Exchange is a university-community initiative that has operated in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) since 1999, proudly celebrating 20+ years of community engagement. Offering a range of free community programming, including basic and advanced computer classes, a conversational English language learning program, arts and cultural workshops and events, and a drop-in social space for residents of the DTES, the LE provides a unique learning environment for a graduate student to contribute to and learn from.
Duties may include:
• Conducting research and assembling a short literature review on linguistic isolation
• Ongoing research support throughout the project
• Developing or facilitating workshops or classes
• Connecting and networking with community partners and/or facilitators
• Event planning and support
• Report writing and support
• Other duties as required
